33rd Annual SMBE NSW Conference

The 33rd SMBE Annual Country Technicians’ Training Seminar and Conference will be held at Panthers, Port Macquarie from 24th to 27th March 2024.

As members know, the annual training seminar is a not-to-be missed event for biomedical engineering personnel to meet and discuss common issues affecting their services, attend specialist training sessions on current and emerging technologies and to develop networking contacts.

As always there will be technical sessions on:

·        New and emerging technologies

·        Service and support – managing your department

·        Clinical measurement and equipment

·        Clinical topics

·        Professional development – education & training

·        Technology management

·        Integration of BME & IT

·        “How to…” workshops conducted by the trade

The formal social program includes the Welcome BBQ and Conference Dinner, but as with all SMBE NSW conferences, the fun doesn’t stop there.

Standards of Practice for Clinical Engineers

The Clinical Engineering Standards of Practice (SoP) has been developed by the National Committee for Clinical Engineering (NCCE) with feedback from the clinical/biomedical engineering community including SMBE members. A discussion forum was held at SMBE 2023 in Ulladulla NSW in March 2023 with contributions from attendees incorporated into the document.

The SoP is now with the Engineers Australia College of Biomedical Engineering for endorsement. Hopefully College and indeed EA endorsement will not be too long coming.

In the meantime, copies of the document (pre-endorsement) are available from secretary@smbensw.org.au
